Then came the information that it is not the Samsung S6E3HC3 display but the Samsung S6E3HC4 display that will be used in the Pixel 7 Pro. While the new Samsung S6E3HC4 display will retain the same resolution of 3,120 x 1,440 just as last year’s Pixel 6 Pro, there are, however, a few changes.
Samsung is supplying the display panels for the Pixel 7 Pro
According to the Google Source page, the Samsung S6E3HC4 panel will allow the Pixel 7 Pro to attain a peak brightness of 600 nits with manual brightness mode enabled. This is 100 nits more than what the Pixel 6 Pro could achieve in the same condition. Moreover, the Samsung S6E3HC4 display will also bump the max high brightness mode luminosity to 1,000 nits, up from 800 nits. Mishaal Rehman breaks down this brightness information and notes that since this HBM value represents 100% APL, this could allow the Pixel 7 Pro to achieve over 1,200 nits at a lower APL value.
Overall, the Pixel 7 Pro, if it comes with the Samsung S6E3HC4 display, will bring decent improvements over the Pixel 6 Pro. As far as the refresh rate is concerned, it will stay the same as last year at 10Hz-120Hz. More details about the device will be unveiled soon as Google has announced an autumn release date for the device.
It’s no surprise that Google is sourcing OLED panels for its next flagship device from Samsung. The Korean giant is the world’s largest supplier of mobile OLED panels, after all.
