Microsoft has officially ended support for both Office 2010 and Office 2016 for Mac.

Microsoft will no longer provide patches, updates, or tech support for either product. While both will still work, they will no longer get any security upgrades from Microsoft.

Microsoft is pointing those looking for a replacement software suite to Microsoft 365 Apps, also known as Office 365 Apps. The company has long advised users to make the switch ahead of ending support for its older enterprise software. Microsoft doesn’t plan on blocking users from accessing aging versions of its programs, but it has warned users still connecting with them that they won’t be privy to the newest versions of patches or security updates.

In addition, Microsoft also posted an updated list of service support ending dates on its official Product and Services Lifecycle Information page.

If either version of Microsoft’s software is integral to your day-to-day operations, you may instead want to utilize the new versions of non-subscription Office software. These suites are as yet unnamed, but will likely be titled Office 2022 collectively. You won’t have to continue paying subscription fees to use them, much like classic Windows apps.

For now, it’s probably a good idea to seek out an alternative unless you want to just keep it rolling with the older versions of the Office 2010 and Office 2016 for Mac.
