How to find 4K UHD content on Disney Plus

Disney Plus entered the waters of the video streaming market and did so by bringing 4K streaming down to a more affordable price. But finding 4K content on the service isn’t straightforward. This list will help you keep track of all the 4K content on Disney Plus.

Around half of the films on Disney Plus are in 4K, and a dozen or more TV series along with a selection of short films plus a sprinkling of some nature documentaries.

The service also supports Dolby Vision HDR, so those with compatible TVs will be able to view content it in a more refined performance. Dolby Vision improves on standard HDR10 by adding dynamic metadata on either scene-by-scene and frame-by-frame basis for improved dark areas and brighter images.

However, much like Netflix and Prime Video it’s not easy to find all 4K HDR content on the service. Here’s how to find 4K content on Disney Plus.

Disney Plus brings 4K HDR content to a cheaper price than its competitors, but the service squanders that advantage by making it a trifle difficult to find 4K content. Search doesn’t help in the discover of 4K content as it’s tailored to movies/show, actors and characters.

The app is fairly widespread among platforms and it can be found on Amazon Fire TV, Apple TV (4th gen onwards) and Roku streaming devices; iOS, AirPlay, Android mobile, Chromebooks, Chromecast; PS4 and Xbox One game consoles; plus Android TV, LG TV, Roku TV, Philips TV and Samsung Tizen TVs.

Disney recommends a connection of 25Mbps (or higher) for 4K content and suggests doing a Speed Test before you sign up to evaluate whether you have enough headroom to watch 4K content. We should also mention that despite the ‘4K’ tag, not everything on the service is in native 4K. In fact, a considerable chunk of the film selection is upscaled to 4K (though the first two X-Men films are native).

Disney Plus costs £5.99/month with no need to sign up to a premium tier to access 4K like Netflix. The streaming service scales to your TV’s features, so to find out whether it supports HDR10 or Dolby Vision, head to the Details page of the title you want to watch.
