Galaxy A52 and A72 have broken Pro video mode’s flagship exclusivity

There are plenty of reasons to get excited over Samsung’s new Galaxy A52 and Galaxy A72 mid-range phones. They’re the best sequels to their respective series so far, pushing their limits in numerous areas across the board, from display to build quality. The camera systems were significantly improved through hardware additions such as a 64MP main sensor with OIS, and at least as far as the Galaxy A72 goes, it boasts a telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom instead of a depth sensor.

Among all the hardware improvements, the one software addition that stands out the most might be Pro video mode. So far it’s been reserved for the company’s flagship smartphones — and the Galaxy S20 FE — but just like high refresh rate displays and stereo speakers have made their way onto the mid-range family of devices through to the Galaxy A52 and the Galaxy A72, Pro video mode has also broken the exclusivity on flagships.

Has Pro video mode been gutted of features?

Pro mode for stills isn’t the same on every Galaxy smartphone. Flagships get the majority of features, whereas less-expensive devices with Pro mode can have certain features missing, whether it’s because they’re not supported by the hardware or for other reasons.

With that in mind, Pro video mode for the Galaxy A52 and the Galaxy A72 doesn’t quite offer the same level of control over your video recording process as you’ll find on the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra or the Galaxy S21 Ultra, but it’s close. Features revolving directional audio adjustments are likely missing due to hardware limitations, but shutter speed controls — which are arguably a lot more important — are available for the Galaxy A52 and Galaxy A72 in both Pro mode and Pro video mode.

We’ll have to determine just how good the Pro video mode is on the Galaxy A52 and Galaxy A72 in the real world for our upcoming reviews, so stay tuned. For now, it’s an unexpected addition to the series, with the potential of being great.
